Drinking Alcoholic Beverages Are "Wrecking Christian’ Families"
Ignorance of the Bible has produced a host of church members indulging in the sin of drinking alcohol in beer, wine and liquor.
A friend of mine who does Christian counselor wrote the following: “I gave you three examples of "dedicated" church people whose life got messed up with alcohol.
One example is the couple who were active in the church and the husband thought it "OK" to have a glass of wine. His wife did not drink and he persisted in his effort to get her to have a drink with him. She finally gave in and had a drink with him. She became a raging alcoholic almost over night. She was petite, pretty, and a joy to be around before she started to drink. She became sloppy, heavy, and flirtatious after she started to drink. They have lived apart often over the last several years.
“The second example is the couple who had been married for more than 20 years and were regular in church attendance. The husband was a "weekend" drinker and thought it was OK. Actually he was an alcoholic and his wife left him because of his drinking.
“The third couple was active in their church. They were not drinkers but the wife thought it OK to have some wine with a male friend. This drinking led to sex in the back seat of a car. This was a mother of 6 and she and her husband had been leaders of music in the high school department of their church. Moody, these are people I have known and friends with as well as a counselor with two of the men involved.
Church members are deceived into drinking alcoholic beverages because they do not understand that wine in the Bible refers to both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.
The Bible warns against even looking at strong, fermented wine, “Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup , when it moveth itself aright. At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder” (Proverbs 23:31-32).
