Marriages Shifting Away From Churches 10/15/2012

by Moody Adams
Marriages celebrated in the nation’s Catholic parishes decreased by 50 percent, from 415,487 in 1972 to 168,400 in 2010. This happened while the Catholic population increased by about 17 million.

One person cited popular destination weddings as a sign of what he calls “our disconnected, secular, consumerist culture.”

It certainly does not have the depth of commitment on a beach as it does in a house of worship.

Divorce is not as difficult when the marriage did not take place with a vow to God.
