by Moody Adams Brett Gerald, 30, of Greensburg, La. Celebrated his birthday, drinking four or five beers at a local country club, and then driving his pickup truck head on into Brenda Gaines’ car.
In the Gaines vehicle were; her daughter Denise and Denise’s four children: Diamond Johnson, Jyran Johnson, Willie Gaines and Rogerick Johnson, Jr. A fellow church member, Angela Mosley, was also in the car. The group was returning home from a bible study.
Brenda, Denise, Diamond, Jyran and Angela were killed instantly in the crash. Willie Gaines was taken off life support June 3. Rogerick Johnson died Sunday, June 10.
State Police said Gerald’s blood alcohol content was .15 percent, which is nearly twice the legal limit of .08 percent.
This was Gerald’s third arrest for drunk driving.
It doesn’t matter whether it is in beer, table wine, or hard liquor, alcohol in any form is a killer.
"Woe unto them that are mighty to drink wine, and men of strength to mingle strong drink" (Isaiah 5:22). Gerald's woe is up to 200 years in prison.
