Moody Adams The lessons from the 2017 hurricanes were extremely costly and painful, but also extremely important.
1. How frail we are Man presumes he is a big, mighty creature when the sun is shining bright, but hurricanes shatter this dream. They force man to face what the Bible declares, “The flesh is weak.” (Matthew 26:41)
We are too frail to stand against the hurricane’s wind. We are too frail to swim against the hurricanes surging waters. We are too frail to survive the hurricanes crumbling buildings. We are too frail to survive the hurricanes lightning strikes.
Job said: “How have you helped him who is without power? How have you saved the arm that has no strength?
2. How quickly our belongings can be loss “Then Jesus, looking at him, loved him, and said to him, “One thing you lack: Go your way, sell whatever you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, take up the cross, and follow Me. But he was sad at this word, and went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions… Then Jesus looked around and said to His disciples, "How hardly shall they that have riches enter the Kingdom of God."
Our belongings easily become our gods. “How hard it is for those who have riches to enter the kingdom of God!” (Mark 10:21-23)
3. How soon our lives can end. “For, "All flesh is like grass, and all its glory like the flower of grass. the grass withers, and the flower falls off, (1 Peter 1:24 )
Shania Twain“ Yes, you can lose somebody overnight, yes, your whole life can be turned upside down. Life is short. It can come and go like a feather in the wind.”
