by Moody Adams 1 Tim. 2:9 instructs, “I will that women adorn themselves in modest apparel . . . “
It seems strange to this generation of half-hearted Christians, but the Bible actually gives instructions concerning how Christians should dress.
I Timothy 2:9,10 makes it very clear that Christians are to dress modestly.
Christian youth are flocking to the beaches in the summer, where it is acceptable to dress as immodestly as you choose.
A young lady spoke to me, after her conversion in a crusade, and confessed that she looked in a mirror after dressing for a date. She realized that everything she was wearing was designed to make her boyfriend lust. She felt convicted and changed into more modest clothes.
Nancy DeMoss writes, “What is Modesty and why is it so important for the Christian woman to understand, dress & behave modestly? Modesty is the voluntary personal responsibility to behave & dress in such a manner as to not purposely draw attention to oneself, to not think proudly of oneself and it's a decision to protect from purposeful or ‘unintended’ enticement in inappropriate ways & places.”
Some excuse immodest dress by saying they can’t find modest clothes. To the contrary, it may take time and effort, but modest dress can be obtained. There is even a website devoted to modest clothing--- www.suddenlydarling.com. It provides modest clothing at reasonable prices.
Dress reveals the heart. If a woman desires to please God she will dress modestly. If she is a self-centered woman who desires to please herself she will dress so that others may be envious of her. If she desires to attract men, she will dress as sexually attractive as society allows.
