Televangelist Joel Osteen Heckled During Service; six Arrested
The Times-Picayune By Kim Chatelain Joel Osteen, a televangelist, author and pastor of the largest Protestant church in the United States, was heckled while preaching at his Houston church on Sunday (June 28), resulting in the arrest of six people, according to USA Today. The incident occurred during the 11 a.m. service at Osteen's Lakewood Church as one of the protesters stood up and screamed "Shame on you Joel."
Six protesters were escorted out of the church, arrested and booked with criminal trespassing, according to the newspaper. Lakewood Church told KHOU-TV that some volunteer ushers at the church are also law enforcement officials and are apparently armed during services.
Lakewood Church is a nondenominational Christian church that averages more than 43,000 in attendance per week to its services, according to published reports.
