Answer to Obama's Attack on the Bible, Part 1 08/11/2015

by Moody Adams
I stay away from politics. However I must respond to Obama’s vicious, inaccurate attacks on the Bible, whether he is a politician or not. The first is in 2008 he said that the Bible approves slavery as public policy.

Here's what Obama said last summer at the "Call to Renewal" conference.

Obama accused the Bible of teaching slavery was approved. He said, “Which passages of Scripture should guide our public policy? Should we go with Leviticus, which suggests slavery is ok?”

In the first place, Leviticus was written for the Jewish people alone and for no other race, not to set American public policy.

In the second place the Jewish laws have not been in affect for 2,000 years. This is made clear for anyone to understand throughout the Bible: (Rom.13:8,9 & 3:21 & 7:6 & 13:8 & 13:10 - 2Cor.3:5,6 & 3:13,16 - Gal.2:12 & 3:2,3 & 3:5 & 3:10 & 3:11 & 3:19 & 3:23 & 3:24,25 & 4:31 & 5:2 - Eph.2:15 & 3:4,5 - Phil.3:8,9 - Col.2:14 & 2:16 & 2:20 - Heb.8:7,8 & 10:20).

In the third place what is called slavery in the Old Testament was nothing like modern slavery. They were “bond servants who were paid for their work and had to be set free in six years (Exodus 21:1), or at the Jubilee year, which ever came first . All the Jews were once slaves to the Egyptians and God set them free.

In the fourth place, Old Testament laws were given to protect the slaves. A man was sentenced to death if he injured a slave, even breaking his tooth (Exodus 21:26-27). In the New Testament the Bible demanded that slaves be treated justly as brothers: “Not now as a servant, but above a servant, a brother beloved, specially to me, but how much more unto thee, both in the flesh, and in the Lord?” (Philemon 1:16).

In the fifth place, it was a Christian student of the Bible named John Newton who led the fight to free the slaves in England.

In the sixth place, Christians are not practicing slavery in today’s world, but Muslims are in the Sudan among other places. While the Bible no where endorses Christians buying or selling slaves, the Koran does. Does Obama have the courage to criticize the Koran? It teaches Muslims: "Slaves are a gift Allah has given to you, O Prophet! we allow thee thy wives whom thou hast dowered, and the slaves whom thy right hand possesseth out of the booty which God hath granted thee” (Koran 33:50).

"A married man can have sex with his slaves, “Forbidden to you (for sex) also are married women, except those who are in your hands as slaves: This is the law of God for you” (Koran 4:24).

"Those who do not control their desires with their slaves are “blameless;” “ And who control their desires, Save with their wives or the slaves whom their right hands have won, for there they shall be blameless” (Koran 70:30).

"Muhammad the founder of the Islamic religion had slaves, including a black slave. Sl-Bukhari, the most reputable writer of the Hadith (the words and deeds of Muhammad and the second most holy book in Islam), said, “Then I put on my clothes and went to the residence of Allah's Messenger (peace_be_upon_him), and behold, he was staying in an upper room of his to which he ascended by a ladder, and a black slave of Allah's Messenger (peace_be_upon_him) was (sitting) on the first rung” (Hadith, Sahih al-Bukhari 6.435).
