By Moody Adams Here's what Obama said at the "Call to Renewal" conference. “Or should we just stick to the Sermon on the Mount - a passage that is so radical that it's doubtful that our own Defense Department would survive its application? So before we get carried away, let's read our bibles. Folks haven't been reading their bibles.”
(You can hear him say this by going to: http://dwindlinginunbelief.blogspot.com/2008/03/obama-bible-and-separation-of-church.html)
Obviously, Obama refers to passages like loving your enemies, turning the other cheek and not killing. Such as: “Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment: But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment” (Matthew 5:21,22).
The sermon on the Mount was given by Jesus to individuals. Individuals do not have the right to kill, however governments do have the right to take life.
“Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. … But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil” (Romans 13:1-6). . If the U.S., England and their allies had not killed Hitler’s troop, he would have ruled the world and killed all Jews. Sometimes good Godly governments have to take lives to save more lives.
Obama is absolutely correct, “let's read our bibles. Folks haven't been reading their bibles.” But we must do more than read, we must understand it.
The Bible gives government the power to take life, but does not give it to individuals. This is the vivid difference between the Bible and the Koran, which gives the right and obligation to individuals to take life and promises Paradise for doing it: “When ye encounter the infidels, strike off their heads till ye have made a great slaughter among them, . . . And whoso fight for the cause of God, their works he will not suffer to miscarry; He will vouchsafe them guidance, and dispose their hearts aright; And he will bring them into the Paradise, of which he hath told them” (Koran 47:4-6).
The Defense Department obeyed the Bible when it sent troops to kill the Nazi murderers. The 9/11 Muslims disobeyed the Bible when they slaughtered innocent Americans, because they were not soldiers of a government, but acted as individual killers.
