Moody Adams I want to encourage your faith during this national economic crisis. While Senators are struggling to figure out what caused this meltdown, the Bible speaks to our economic problems very clearly. America is suffering for her covetousness.
Jeremiah analysed the reason God’s chosen people fell and lost their land: “For from the least of them even unto the greatest of them every one is given to covetousness; and from the prophet even unto the priest every one dealeth falsely” (Jeremiah 6:13). People want more than they can afford. Creditors are lending people money they cannot afford to pay back. Congress wants to please the people they represent by giving them more than they can afford.
This problem easily corrupts those who sit in church: “moreover, they come unto thee as the people cometh, and they sit before thee as my people, and they hear thy words, but they will not do them: for with their mouth they shew much love, but their heart goeth after their covetousness” (Ezekiel 33:31).
Here is what we can do about all this: 1.Repent of covetousness and live modestly. 2.Pray for God to override our political leaders. 3.Put your faith in God, not money.
Jesus “said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth. Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?” (Luke 12:25, 26).
