Diana Nyad Completes Cuba-Florida swim, Sending a Message to Christians 09/02/2013

“Senior swimmer Diana Nyad stepped onto dry sand in Key West on Monday after swimming more than 100 miles through treacherous waters from Cuba, at last achieving a goal she has pursued for 35 years, writes William M. Welch of USA Today. "‘Never, ever give up,'’ Nyad, 64, said after becoming the first person to swim from Havana to the southernmost point in the continental United States without the assistance of a protective shark cage.”

It was the 'iron lady,'Nyad’s, fifth attempt, beginning in 1978. Achiefing a feat no young person has ever achieved despite the toll her age and the lifelong swimming hazards.

"You're never too old to chase your dreams,'' is a sharp message to all seniors, particular to all Christian seniors.

The Bible exalts believers to perseverance: Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;) (Hebrews 10:23).

Job is held up as the great exemple of perseverance, enduring great persecution: “Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy” (James 5:11).

Jesus commended those who do not ‘faint,’ but persevere: “I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars: And hast borne, and hast patience, and for my name's sake hast laboured, and hast not fainted” (Revelation 2:2-3).
