Ashes on your forehead will not cleanse being ‘lent’ to the Devil" for Mardi Gras
Moody Adams Ashes on your forehead for 40 days of being ‘lent’ to the Lord, will not cleanse you from being lent to the Devil for Mardi Gras. Drunkenness, sex and fleshly indulgences will not be erased by 40 days of fasting (such as giving up watermelon).
Repentance is essential to forgiveness. When you plan to sin again next Mardi Gras, there is no true repentance.
In John 8:11 Jesus told the adulterous woman, “She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.”
In John 5:13-15 Jesus told a man who had been healed, “And he that was healed wist not who it was: for Jesus had conveyed himself away, a multitude being in that place. Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee.
Lent originated as a mirroring of this, fasting 40 days as preparation for Easter.” Jesus was not fasting for forgiveness of sin—He had none. It is blasphemy to relate this to Jesus’fast.
