Only the Virgin Mary Knew for Sure who Jesus's Father was
by Moody Adams Many people have believed Jesus Christ was born of a virgin. His mother Mary was positive.
When Mary discovered she was pregnant, she said: My soul does magnify the Lord, And my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior. “For he has regarded the low estate of his handmaiden: for, behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed. For he that is mighty has done to me great things; and holy is his name”--(Luke 1:46-49).
Mary gave God glory for her pregnancy. She knew future generations would call her “blessed” because of this pregnancy. She declared a mighty God had done “great things” inside her body. Mary knew Jesus was born of a virgin like no one else.
The Bible also testifies that Jesus was born of a virgin: “Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost. Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a public example, was minded to put her away privately. But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, you son of David, fear not to take unto you Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. And she shall bring forth a son, and you shall call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us”--(Matthew 1:18-23).
Old Testament prophecy said the Messiah would be born of a virgin. Jesus fulfilled this prophecy: “Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel”--(Isaiah 7:14), and “For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground”--(Isaiah 53:2). Roots do not “naturally” come out of the ground without water, just as children do not “naturally” come from a virgin. Jesus did.
Joseph, Mary’s husband-to-be, believed his wife was a virgin when Jesus was born. He was only convinced of this after the angel of the Lord appeared to him and told him. Before this he was going to back out on marrying her. Richard Niessen said, “The hardest sign God could give . . . was a true biological impossibility—the miraculous conception of a son by a woman who was a virgin…”
This is the sign God gave us to prove Jesus was His Son.
