Christians Should be of Good Cheer Following the Election
By Moody Adams During troublesome times the Lord said, "to be of good cheer.” And here are the reasons:
We are alive! When sailors were facing death on a storm-tossed sea, Paul told them to be of good cheer because God said they were not going to die. The sun came up this morning and I was still breathing. Praise God. “And now I exhort you to be of good cheer: for there shall be no loss of any man's life among you, but of the ship” (Acts 27:22).
The main reason to be of good cheer is God said to. Our Lord foresaw His followers would experience great persecution and suffering as he did, but inspired by this He commanded them to “be of good cheer:” “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace.
In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world” (John 16:33). Satan is the “god of this world:” (2 Corinthians 4:4).
We should expect “tribulation” here. But Christ rose to another world and through Him we will move to a world without all the troubles we are having here.
