(CNN)An Arkansas death row inmate who had been scheduled for execution Monday was temporarily spared after decisions from the US Supreme Court and the Arkansas Supreme Court.
The truth is, everyone supports the death penalty, despite the courts decision. People may differ on who should receive it, but they all believe in the death penalty. If you believe in having an army, the Secret Service, police, the New Testament, the Old Testament, world opinion, prison guards and inmates, justice, our judicial system, or deterring crime, you believe in the death penalty. If you believe in having a military to prevent a hostile takeover of our nation, or to stop killers like Hitler, you believe in the death penalty.
The whole purpose of the U.S. military is to kill for our country and to do so without reading a person their rights or giving them a trial.
If you believe in having an armed Secret Service, you believe in the death penalty. The purpose of the people protecting the president is to administer the death penalty to anyone threatening our nation's leader.
If you believe in an armed police force, you believe in the death penalty. The purpose of the policeman's gun is to shoot a person if they are getting ready to kill a group of people. If you believe in the Bible's New Testament, you believe in the death penalty.
Romans 13:4 says of government, "If you do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword (the instrument of taking life) in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doesth evil." If you believe in the Bible's Old Testament, you believe in the death penalty. Genesis 9:6 says, "Whosoever sheds man's blood, by man shall his blood be shed". Individuals do not have the right to kill, governments do.
The death penalty, when given speedily and consistently as in Singapore, has been far more effective in stopping the drug traffic, robberies, etc. than America's approach has.
The disagreement about the death penalty is not over whether government has the right to take life, but over who should be executed. We agree on killing foreign soldiers and terrorists slaughtering innocent people in the street, which God approves: But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil. (Romans 13:4)
