by Moody Adams Satuday and Sunday, I spoke in a church that is proving the Old Time Gospel still works. Pastor Robbie Foster went to the church when it had as few as 28 in attendance 9 years ago and remembers praying for 100 people to attend. To his amazement they passed 1,500 in attendance on Easter Sunday. They had over 30 new people for baptism.
The pastor still wears a tie, they still sing from the song books and his Biblical messages are not friendly to everyone. Sunday night Foster had to tell an annoyed man, “You are not going to tell me what to preach.” Their aim is not just to reach crowds but to make disciples.
An impressive thing about the church is that people have to drive long distances to attend Hopewell, which is located far out of heavy population areas in a former cow pasture. It is still surrounded by pasture land.
The church is distinguished by a great leader, a hard working staff, an exciting music program, and a dynamic foreign missions emphasis.
