ROMAN CATHOLIC SEX ABUSE PAYOUT REACHES RECORD HIGH 03/07/2008

The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops Dioceses reports 691 new sex abuse cases costing the church a record $526 million, pushing the total to $2.3 billion since 1950, according to an Associated Press report.

The L.A. archdiocese had to sell their headquarters tosells HQ to help meet their pledged $660 million in addition to the cost paid by insurance companies.

“Advocates for victims have criticized the annual reports because the auditors and researchers must rely on information provided by the dioceses and religious orders,” said the AP.
