Our ears itch to hear that Christians who live godly in Christ Jesus are promised health, wealth, success, long life and approval by men? No, quite the opposite. God promises us, “For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake” (Philippians 1:29).

Not health, but suffering. Not wealth, but suffering. Not approval by man, but suffering.

Christ’s kingdom is not of this world, but the eternal heavenly world. There those who live godly in Christ Jesus are promised health, wealth, long life and approval by God.

In America about the greatest suffering for Christ, is the loss of dates, popularity, reputation, underhanded business deals, political success and perhaps your job. In many countries living godly means the loss of freedom and life.

Jesus told us to rejoice when we suffer for His sake, “Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you” (Matthew 5:11, 12).

Of course we do not want to suffer, but we should expect it if we live godly and we should rejoice init.

In heaven, we will be rewarded beyond anything we can imagine.
