ESCAPE THE LOSER’S SNARE 07/03/2008

The error of the Corinthian Christians was rooted in
not knowing that God lived inside their bodies.

The basic problems of the human race could be solved if they only knew where God was. The world thinks Jesus Christ is still in the grave; it therefore has no hope. Many religious people think God lives in their sanctuary, “the house of God”, they have no power. Only a few have discovered He is living inside their bodies! They have both hope and power.

All the problems of the Christian church were previewed in the church at Corinth. They were analyzed in Paul’s letter to that church. The Corinthians were carnal, worldly, divided, immoral people calling themselves Christians. Paul not only discussed the fruits of the problem, but he put his finger on the taproot of the problem. I Corinthians 3:16, 17 says, “Know you not that you are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple you are. Again Paul exclaims, What? Know you not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which you have of God, and you are not your own? For you are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s” (I Corinthians 6:19, 20).

The error of the Corinthians was rooted in not knowing that God lived inside their bodies. This same error is propagated today in vast areas of religion. The minister refers to his church’s main building as a sanctuary.

The people have been thoroughly indoctrinated in this error that the church house is God’s house. Listen to the mother say, “Son, now you behave, we are going into God’s house.” When we discover that our body is God’s house, we want to behave all the time.
The finance committee appeals, “Now we are going to have to sacrifice, but remember that we are out to build the house of God.” The result has been that we have succeeded in raising far more money than any generation of Christians has ever raised for buildings. At the same time we have also succeeded in living the most immoral lives any generation of “Christians” has ever lived. Seventy percent of all inmates in one Southern penitentiary were found to be active church members!
The problem is seen again in prayer meetings where people pray, “Lord, send your Spirit.” If the apostle Paul were to attend one of these prayer meetings, he would probably walk over and tap the brother on the shoulder and say, What, know you not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you “ (I Corinthians 6:19).
Dr. A. B. Simpson points out two thrilling facts about this marvelous mystery of Christ living in us. “It is not a complicated mass of petty rites, ceremonies or enactments but one simple and comprehensive prescription, covering everything and needing only to be habitually applied; namely Christ for everything and as it is so simple so it is universal in its application there is no side of human nature to which it does not apply, whether the inner life of the soul, the needs of the body, the circumstances of life, or the exigencies of duty and work.”
