By Moody Adams The choice of presidents is important, but not the most important issue. With a presidential election coming soon, has become easy for Christians to put all their focus on this, while forgetting a much more important issues.
What will happen to us over the next four years is important. Knowing what will happen over the next four million years is more important. Jesus Christ, who rose from the dead said “And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand” (John 10:28).
It is a great joy when your party wins an election. Knowing Christ is a much greater joy. “But we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement” (Romans 5:11). To know that our wicked past has been atoned for; that we have began a new life with a clean slate is a great joy.
To get a friend to vote for your candidate is a victory. Getting a friend to receive Christ is a much more important victory. Paul rejoiced over those he had led to Christ, “For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Are not even ye in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at his coming?” (I Thess. 2:19).
To vote for a good candidate is gratifying. Living a good, holy life is much more gratifying. “Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness” (II Peter 3:11).
We must not allow important things to turn our attention from the most important thing; to know Christ and to love and serve Him.
