The anti-Christian Hindu leader Swami Laxamanananda Saraswat’s assassination on Aug. 22 has been blamed on Christians. This has resulted in mobs of Hindus burning churches, homes and the bodies of Christians they kill.
An estimated 50,000 Christians have been forced to run for their lives, while the Hindus have burned more than 3,000 homes and over 100 churches.
Gospel for Asia (GFA), tells of the courage of the persecuted Christians, some of whom were doused with gasoline and burned alive.
"The encouraging thing is that the attackers themselves acknowledge that Orissa (an Eastern providence in India) used to be only 2 percent Christian, and now it's 28 percent Christian," reports Juria Bardhan, GFA's state leader in Orissa.
