THIRD LARGEST MASS MURDER IN AMERICAN HISTORY WAS BY A MINISTER
by Moody Adams This week CNN and MSNBC ran specials on the Nov. 18, 1978 massacre of 914 men, women and children.
On Sunday, Sept. 17, 1972, the Sunday San Francisco Chronicle-Examiner and the the Indianapolis Star started running eight installments of a exposť of the Peoples Temple and Rev. Jim Jones.
In one of the great tragedies of American journalism they canceled the series and did a public apology after protest marches and threats of lawsuits. Then-San Francisco Mayor George Moscone and future Assembly Speaker Willie Brown rallied to Jones' side, offering their support to a man who had become entrenched in the city's political establishment.
Six years later, in Guyana South America's Jonestown, this maniac fed poisoned kool-aid to his flock and gunned down California Rep. Leo Ryan and three reporters who were there to investigate the cult. It is the third-largest mass murder of Americans after Pearl Harbor and 9/11.
This could have possibly been avoided if the press had published all of the series.
I have a startling CD recording of the tragedy that reveals how Bible preachers can be led astray and what their false doctrines can lead to. To order click here.
