By Moody Adams We Americans have been through some mighty good years. They appear to be headed toward an end. Many are frustrated by unemployment, debt, illness and politics. But it is time to return to the Biblical basis for a happy life. It is to be based on the future—in the heavenly world to come.
Sure times are hard here, terribly hard. But this is what the Lord promised in this world. but we must focus on the eternal world to come after this brief life is over. The Bible says, “For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us” (Romans 8:18).
Jesus said we may weep for a brief time, but we will rejoice at His return, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, That ye shall weep and lament , but the world shall rejoice : and ye shall be sorrowful , but your sorrow shall be turned into joy” (John 16:20).
Peter reminded us, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. Wherein ye greatly rejoice , though now for a season, if need be , ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations: That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth , though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ: Whom having not seen , ye love ; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing , ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory,” (I Peter 1:3-8).
Our Lord said when the times of great trouble come, “And when these things begin to come to pass , then look up , and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh” (Luke 21:28)..
