CRYSTAL CATHEDRAL GOES BANKRUPT 10/20/2010

After years of declining support, the Southern California mega church has been forced to declare bankruptcy due to lawsuits by creditors. They are going to try to continue their TV show, which generates most of their financial support.

Schuller built the church through years of hard, hard work. He preached positive thinking very effectively.

While the bankruptcy is being blamed on the downturn in the economy, there may be more to the story.

Schuller fired his son, who followed him as pastor, for preaching too much Bible. The fathers amusing rationale for not approving of his sonís sermons, which were full of direct references to the Bible was, "I was called to start a mission, not a church," Schuller told his church audience. "There is a difference. . . . You don't try to preach . . . what is sin and what isn't sin. A mission is a place where you ask nonbelievers to come and find faith and hope and feel love. We're a mission first, a church second."

Whatever they are, they are about $50 million in debt.
